The holidays are coming! I have been trying to work more on Christmas gifts, since it seems to be sneaking up on us. I was also blessed with a beautiful new nephew this past week, so I had to celebrate somehow. This week, I crocheted two hats. The little green one is for my new nephew. The pink one was supposed to be for Ellie, but I made it way too big. It's going to be for my niece Riverlyn instead. I am still pretty proud of them, despite their faults.

All throughout my life, my grandma Marsha would be constantly crocheting. I remember being mesmerized as I watched her calmly crochet while she sat and talked with us. I have numerous crocheted items made by her. I have a tiny white crocheted dress that I wore when I was blessed as a baby. I was given so many beautiful Afghans made by her. They are some of my most prized possessions.
My grandma actually made my daughter's blessing dress, also. It came with the dress, booties, a bonnet, and a blanket. It looks the same as the one I wore as a baby. It has been put into a pretty floral box and stored somewhere safe.

I was always so intrigued with her occupation, and I had even tried it once. Since having my daughter, I have been trying to find something I can do to make her things that she could potentially treasure like the items I treasure from my grandmother.
Now this occupation has become a way for me to show my love for those around me. I also believe that my occupation is helping me to recognize the love of my grandma and to (hopefully) show her that I love her and her gifts so much that I wanted to learn to do the same. I think for these reasons alone, this occupation will be a part of my life story for the rest of my life.

  1. Makenna,
Your story is very touching and wonderful! I think it is amazing that you are able to share the love for this occupation with your grandmother and your daughter. Your hats look amazing and I get the sense that you are way more confident within your occupation. Do you think one day you will crochet your granddaughter or other family member a blessing dress, blanket and booties? Do you ever see this occupation having an end in your story line or do you think they will a continues story line?

    1. Hi, Cassidy. I would love to one day crochet dresses and blankets for my future grandchildren. I think that crochet will remain in my life as part of my story line, or at least I hope so. Thank you so much for your questions.

  2. Makenna,
I love your choice in occupation and the story behind it! Your grandma's crocheting and the stories you have with her makes this occupation really meaningful! I love the hats you made, those are so cute! Congratulations on your new nephew! I just became a first time aunt this week and I am so excited. The dress for your daughters blessing is so beautiful, it must have taken a lot of skill to make. Has your grandma taught you to crochet some or have you mostly learned on your own? I look forward to seeing what else you create!

    1. Hi, Maddie. I am completely in love with the dress my grandma made Ellie for her blessing. She is a very talented woman. I have not actually gotten any lessons from her, besides sending her pictures and getting feedback through text. I have had to learn on my own mostly, since she lives about forty miles away.
Thank you for your comment, and congratulations on becoming an aunt! It is one of the funnest titles I have received.
