This week's progress has been the absolute hardest to document. I think I did more work this week than any other week, with less visible progress than any other week. I have been trying to crochet the arms and legs for the panda that I have been making, but I keep losing track on the rows and stitches. I have had to frog (undo some stitches) quite a bit, so I have been frustrated trying to get my final product done.

I feel as though my occupation revolves around two axes. The first axis is the basis of doing my occupation for a class, and the second is the basis of doing my occupation because I enjoy it. I think that the first axis, doing my occupation for class, takes away all autonomy on my part. I have noticed that when I crochet just because I know I have to for class, I get more frustrated and I enjoy it a whole lot less. Everything feels forced when I remember I have to practice my occupation and I am short on time.

There are other weeks in which I have plenty of free time, so I usually end up crocheting in my free time. When this is the case, I chose to work on my occupation using my autonomy. I find crochet much more enjoyable when this is the case.

When it comes to self determination, I think that my high level of determination is making my occupation less enjoyable at times, also. I am so determined to get to the finished product, that I am too frustrated to enjoy the process of crocheting.

I also think that my level of motivation affects my occupation greatly. My motivation levels have been really low lately. I am completely burnt out, and honestly could probably just use a nap. I have noticed that when my motivation levels are higher, I tend to also be able to enjoy crochet much more, as well as focus more on counting my stitches and rows.

  1. Hi Makenna, it's Melanie Shaw! Thanks for sharing about your occupation this week! I've also had those times when I am undoing my knitting more than I am making visible progress. It really is easier to knit (or crochet in your case) when there isn't a requirement or a time limit. I've had a couple projects that I intended on giving for Valentines day that ended up being given closer to Mother's day because of this. For me, knitting hats seems to be the best, since it's really easy to see visible progress quickly, and the actual amount of knitting required for a hat is much less than that for a scarf. With my occupation for this class being blogging, it's relatively easier to see when I'm making progress, but it's harder to find a misplaced word than it is a stitching mistake. Hope you are able to find enjoyment in your occupation without worrying about deadlines soon! Also, I love the llama you knitted for your sister.

    1. Hey, Melanie! It almost brings me a sense of relief that I am not the only one that feels that way about my occupation when it comes to time constraints and perceived lack of autonomy. I think this weekend will be one that I can finally try to enjoy crocheting again, that is if I can remember where I rehomed my crochet things since moving. I also like making hats, and I want to start making some soon, although I need to finish the panda first.
Thank you so much for your comment,
      Makenna
