This week has been a really hard week academically, so I have been trying to do new things as far as my occupation goes. Instead of using a full pattern, I am trying to use a generic hat pattern, then trying to customize it and adapt it. I want to make a cute jack o' lantern hat for my daughter for Halloween. It has been so fun to be able to have some creative freedom, rather than being stuck in the parameters of a pre-made pattern.  Hasselkus' description of place and space was a something that I very much experienced. I have a closet in my home that has never been used, or at least for anything that I ever use. I now use the closet to store my crochet supplies. I now see this closet constantly. It has gone from an unimportant background piece of my home to a warm, inviting, happy storage vessel. Inside of this closet went from completely meaningless, to a place where I want to open up and see what fun treasures I have waiting for me.  This process was fairly slow. I fe...

This week has been eventful! I would show off pictures of my work from this week, but I forgot to take one. I have been back to working on the blanket for my daughter. I have practiced, but nowhere near as much as I would have liked to. It had me sad to be unable to practice as much as I would prefer. Crochet has been put on the back burner this week, as I have been running every which way and have hardly had a moment to sit down. As I write this, I keep looking at the clock and thinking, "Well there goes some of my precious sleep time." I am an old lady. I go to bed by 9:30 most nights. I am honestly unsure about what to say as far as the question about spirituality and our occupations goes. I feel like for me, my occupation enriches my spirituality as well as my spirituality enriches my occupation. When I am crocheting, I put a lot of emphasis on family, and crochet has been something I have been able to do to connect with my family. I have only made things for those whom a...

This week, I took a break from crocheting my blanket and got to work on making a birthday present for my sister. I asked her if she could choose any animal to be her sidekick, which animal would she choose and why. She told me she'd pick a llama so it could carry all of her things and spit on all of her enemies. So, I found a YouTube tutorial on how to make a llama. I surprisingly finished it in about three hours of active crocheting. I was so happy while I made it. It was so fun. When I finished it, I was so proud. My new occupation is becoming so fulfilling to me! My llama isn't perfect, but it just adds character, right? When thinking back on the reading, there were many different meanings given to the term "occupation." One definition was that occupations are the things that people do every day. Another definition was a self-initiated and/or self-directed activity. The last meaning that was given to the term "occupation" was along the lines of occupati...

Welcome! As implied with the title of my blog,  I decided that for my new occupation, I would learn to crochet. This is not a super fun task for me. I had tried crocheting one other time when I was nine years old and it ended with me sitting on the floor and crying. I ultimately gave up at that point.      I knew I was stuck with it this time, so I chose to take the plunge. I was sick, so I had my husband go to the store and purchase all of my supplies. He bought me a variety pack of crochet hooks as well as a ball of fuzzy pink chenille yarn. As soon as he got home, I got started with my practice.      The original plan was to start some swatches and go from there. Then, as I opened the ball of yarn, I noticed the packaging had a free pattern for a baby blanket. My brain immediately thought,      "Hey, you have a baby, and it's about to start getting cooler. What a perfect time to make a baby blanket!"      ...
